Q&A: Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer. (which is a laptop) Has stayed on for hours.?

Question by Hye Ri: Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer. (which is a laptop) Has stayed on for hours.?
I’m talking about preparing to configure windows, not updates windows. It has stayed on my laptop for nearly 2 hours now and isn’t going away. I have turned it off twice and I’m worried it’s stuck there. How do I get rid of the “Preparing to configure windows. Do not turn off your computer” page?

If it is a new computer then take it back to where you bought it from and clarify the circumstances to them, if not then unplug the battery for about half an hour, plug it back in and retry. This may work.

Hope this helps,

  1. Dream Chaser

It’s stuck. Restart and tap F8. Repair your Computer > System Restore > Pick a date when the computer was working fine (a day or two earlier).
